VonHoffman Garage Door Services was founded by Thomas “Tom” Hoffman, a garage door professional who has spent nearly 10 years servicing doors throughout middle Tennessee. What sets Tom apart isn’t just his time in the field — it’s the sheer range of roles he’s mastered along the way.
He’s worked as a hands-on installer, hanging and aligning doors with millimeter precision. He’s worked as a service technician, diagnosing and repairing thousands of failures across every brand and configuration. He’s served as a fleet manager, responsible for keeping an entire operation of trucks, parts, and technicians running smoothly. And he’s worked as a designer, applying his deep field knowledge to how garage door products are actually built.
Very few people in this industry have seen it from all of those angles. That perspective is exactly what you get when you call VonHoffman GDS — a complete, top-to-bottom understanding of how garage door systems work, why they fail, and how to fix them so they stay fixed.
Before building his garage door career, Tom dedicated 15 years of his life to serving the United States. He spent 8 years in the U.S. Marines, 6 years in the U.S. Army, and 1 year in the Tennessee National Guard, with roles spanning 155mm artillery, quartermaster, and chemical equipment repair.
That background is more than a line on a résumé. The discipline, accountability, and mechanical precision the military demands are the same values Tom brings to every garage door he touches. When he says he'll be there, he's there. When he says it'll be done right, it's done right. It's why so many of his customers — including fellow veterans — trust him without hesitation.
Tom is a proud father of five — three step-children and two biological children. Family is at the center of who he is and how he runs his business. He understands that your garage door is often the largest moving part of your home and a key point of security for the people you love.

Tom's expertise runs so deep that he doesn't just use the tools of the trade — he invents them. Over the years he has created new tools and products for the garage door industry and worked directly with a manufacturer on design and product development.
His current project is a new type of torsion-spring winding cone with a built-in winding system. Manually winding torsion springs is one of the most physically demanding and hazardous tasks technicians face — the repetition and force involved can cause serious shoulder injuries and chronic fatigue. Tom's winding cone is designed to eliminate that risk entirely, making the job safer for technicians everywhere.
